iPhoneography: Oahu

For a short time, I escaped to Oahu.  As much as I would love to entertain you for hours with fabricated tales of adventure and grandeur, I only have a few memories from my trip to share.  Those who were there to share them with me will know and understand the fondness behind the photographs even without words.  However, this anecdote would not be complete without a thoughtful collection of musings to accompany them.

Ko’Olina Beach Club

I’ve always loved coming here.  There’s no surf (which I miss) but you can snorkel without getting pounded by the mighty ocean, and the weather is usually nice despite what it might be like on other parts of the island.  This is one reason I would’ve stayed if I could have.  I would’ve liked some time.  If life brings me back to this island, you know where to find me.

Disney Aulani Resort

We just passed through because it’s Disney.  I have to say, although it’s nice, it wasn’t very Disney-ish aside from the price tag.  I would probably advise the same method….just pass through or maybe stop in for the character breakfast.

Plumerias

I love flowers, and plumerias have always been one of my favorite flowers (hence the tattoos).  This was given to me by Emma girl during breakfast at Cinnamon’s in Kailua.  I don’t think I have been anywhere else where they have guava chiffon or red velvet pancakes.  This place easily rivals the notorious Boots & Kimo’s for their pancakes with their coveted macadamia nut sauce without the two hour wait.  I’m glad I’ve been to both places, and my stomach is especially grateful for the experience.

Mariner’s Ridge

…..and there I was sitting on top of the world.  I loved this hike.  It’s not terribly long, but it has amazing views at the top preceded by a butt burning workout.  Despite the lack of oxygen getting to some of the adults on this trail, I did notice a preschooler making the trek in an effortless fashion while stopping to say hello to everyone she passed.  She did not seem to be having trouble breathing.

Apple Napples from Napoleon’s Bakery

This has always been our straight off the plane snack, breakfast, after breakfast snack, afternoon snack, and midnight snack.  You get the picture.  You should just have one.  Most of it ends up on my clothes.  If you know me personally, you’re probably not surprised by that.

Roxy

This is my new favorite sweatshirt.  It’s t-shirt thin and super soft and almost shouldn’t count as a sweatshirt.  I always seem to leave with one thing from Roxy.  It’s like my thing.

Now it’s time.  I went to Oahu to say good-bye.  Aloha!
